NOVELL April showcase & workshop
NOVELL hosted our first showcase and workshop for 2023 on April 17 at the La Trobe University City Campus in Melbourne. The showcase presented a selection of NOVELL’s research outputs including our evaluation of healthcare environments, and speculative design futures of first-person stroke survivor and healthcare worker experiences. We were so pleased to host a great turnout of 34 attendees for our showcase and 19 participants to the subsequent workshop sessions.
Following an introductory welcome and NOVELL project overview from Julie Bernhardt (Co-head, Stroke division, The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health), the showcase proceeded with presentations on ‘Evaluation of health environment options’ by Ruby Lipson-Smith (University of Western Sydney/NOVELL); an ‘Ongoing evaluation through citizen science: An emerging opportunity for the future’, a presentation of four prototypes by past students of the UX Interaction Design Capstone Project, 2022, Swinburne University; ‘Economic evaluation in NOVELL’ by Rhonda Kerr (Executive Director, Economics, Health Services and Planning, Guidelines and Economists Network International (GENI); and Aaron Davis (UniSA/NOVELL) presented the final two installments: ‘Rehabilitation Futures: Cutting through complexity using first-person experience’, and ‘Technology in the built space: Supporting physical and service infrastructure innovation through technology solutions’.
You can watch recordings of Aaron’s and Ruby’s presentations on our Resources page.
The workshop involved two consecutive sessions that addressed research topics presented at the showcase. Participants were invited to contribute to discussions on the following topics: ‘A care process map for inpatient stroke rehabilitation’ (Identifying opportunities for innovation in the stroke rehab care process.); and ‘Economic evaluation in NOVELL’ (How do we show the value of the new NOVELL environments? What do we need to measure?).
While each presentation and workshop topic demonstrated a vital aspect of the NOVELL redesign project, there is much more to come! We are set to host another showcase and workshop session in August and look forward to the opportunity to once again present and discuss our research.
